The current rule still only allows H4 EAD if your H1B spouse has an approved I-140 or is in the 7th year H1B extension period. The proposed expansion to all H4 holders hasn't moved forward yet. I'd recommend asking your spouse's employer to prioritize the I-140 filing — that's the fastest path to your EAD.
Look into starting an online business or freelancing from India (legally through your Indian bank accounts). Many H4 holders do remote work for Indian companies. It's not ideal but it keeps your skills sharp and resume active.
