For 7 YOE in the Bay Area, $185K base is on the lower end. Here's what I'm seeing in 2026: - Senior DE at FAANG: $220-280K base + $150-300K RSU/yr - Series C startup: $180-220K base + meaningful equity - Mid-size tech: $190-240K base + bonus I'd counter at $210K base minimum. The equity package matters a LOT at a Series C โ get details on the strike price, valuation, and liquidation preferences before counting that as comp.
Don't forget to factor in California state income tax (13.3% top bracket) vs Texas (0%). That $20K raise might actually be a pay CUT after taxes + rent difference. SF rent for a 1BR is $3,200-4,000/month vs Austin $1,400-2,000.
