You're not failing โ every parent is dealing with this. What worked for us: 1. **Family media agreement**: We sat down WITH our kid (not dictating TO him) and agreed on rules together. Kids follow rules better when they help make them. 2. **Earned screen time**: 30 min reading = 30 min screen. Math practice = gaming time. 3. **No screens during meals or after 8pm**: Non-negotiable. 4. **Replaced, don't remove**: Sign him up for cricket coaching, robotics, or art class. You can't just create a vacuum. The grandparent situation is tough. We had a gentle conversation with them about why limits matter โ showed them the AAP guidelines. They came around eventually.
Google Family Link is a lifesaver. You can set daily screen time limits, approve/block apps, and set bedtime hours. The kid sees a countdown timer and knows when time is up โ removes you from being the "bad guy." Been using it for 2 years with our 11 year old.
