Done this 4 times with my kids. Tips: **Airline**: Emirates via Dubai is my top pick — bassinet seats on the A380, kid-friendly meals, free diapers/wipes onboard, and the Dubai stopover breaks the journey into two manageable flights. Air India direct is fine but older planes and less amenities. **Book the bulkhead seat** and request a bassinet even though your toddler might be too big — the extra legroom is worth it. **Pack carry-on essentials**: - Diapers for 24 hours (not just the flight) - 3 changes of clothes for baby AND you - New small toys (dollar store haul — one new toy per hour) - Favorite snacks (Goldfish, Cheerios, fruit pouches) - iPad loaded with Cocomelon/Peppa Pig (no guilt, this is survival) - Benadryl (ask pediatrician first) **Timing**: Book the late night flight (Air India 9pm or Emirates 11pm departure). Baby sleeps through most of it. **The golden rule**: Don't care what other passengers think. Your job is to keep your kid safe and as comfortable as possible. Everything else is noise.
One thing nobody warns you about: the LANDING EAR PAIN. Toddlers can't pop their ears. Give a bottle or sippy cup during descent — the swallowing motion helps. We also use saline nose drops before landing. Our pediatrician recommended children's ear pressure plugs from Amazon — they actually work.
