32F here, married last year to someone I met on Hinge. What worked: 1. **Hinge with filters**: Set ethnicity preference to South Asian. You'll find plenty of ABCDs and 1.5 gen. 2. **Be honest in your profile**: I put 'Gujarati-American who loves garba AND techno' — attracted exactly the right people who got both sides of me. 3. **Don't dismiss arranged introductions**: My friend met her husband through a family introduction and they're the happiest couple I know. It's not like the movies — modern 'arranged' is basically curated matchmaking. 4. **Tell your parents your boundaries**: 'I'm open to introductions but I will choose. No pressure, no timeline.' This keeps them involved without losing control. The key is being clear about what you want — someone who can go to mandir with your parents AND out for drinks with your friends. They exist, I promise.
My therapist (South Asian, she gets it) said something that changed my perspective: 'You don't have to choose between being Indian and being American in your relationship. You're both, and you need someone who sees and loves all of it.' Stopped trying to fit into either the 'full desi' or 'full American' dating mold and just... was myself. Met my partner 3 months later.
